AED written test practice questions

Are you preparing for an AED (defibrillator) written test or exam? Here are some practice multiple choice questions to help you prepare!

1. Where should you place the AED pads on an adult victim?

  1. One under the left arm pit and one high on the right side of the chest.
  2. One under the right arm and one high on the left side of the chest.
  3. One under each arm pit.
  4. One in the centre of the back and one over the centre of the chest.

2. What should you do if the AED advises that a shock is required?

  1. Keep performing CPR until the very last moment.
  2. Make sure that no one is touching the casualty and give a verbal warning.
  3. Stop performing CPR, but keep checking for a pulse.
  4. Stop doing chest compressions, but keep doing rescue breathing.

3. Where should you place the AED pads on a small child victim?

5. What should you do if you find that the casualty is wearing a nicotine, or similar, patch on their chest?

  1. Make sure that neither of the AED pads is placed over the patch.
  2. Continue with CPR and wait for the paramedic to arrive.
  3. Remove the patch and place the AED pads as normal.
  4. Place the pads as normal and follow instructions from the AED.

6. Which items should be kept with the AED?
