What is CPR?
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) is a lifesaving first aid skill used to help victims of a cardiac arrest.
A cardiac arrest occurs when the electrical activity controlling the heart becomes disrupted. This causes the victim to loose consciousness and stop breathing.
Without prompt first aid treatment, a cardiac arrest is fatal.
Why should I learn CPR?
Sudden cardiac arrest is the leading cause of death worldwide. Last year, over 1 million people suffered a sudden cardiac arrest.
The treatment of sudden cardiac arrest is prompt CPR and the delivery of an electrical shock to the heart (defibrillation).
